WINDSOR – Windsor Castle – The Changing of the Guard

The Changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle is a traditional military ceremony in which a new group of soldiers takes over guard duties from the previous group. It is one of the most famous royal ceremonies in Britain and has been performed for centuries.
The guards are active soldiers from regiments of the British Army, often wearing bright red tunics and tall black bearskin hats. During the ceremony, the “Old Guard” marches out while the “New Guard” marches in, accompanied by a military band playing music.
The ceremony usually takes place in the castle grounds and attracts many visitors from around the world. It symbolizes discipline, tradition, and the protection of the royal residence. Although it is colorful and ceremonial, the guards are fully trained soldiers carrying out real military duties.
