TOLEDO – Museo Sefardí

Museo Sefardí is a national museum in Toledo, Spain, dedicated to the history, culture, and legacy of the Sephardic Jews of the Iberian Peninsula. Established in 1964 and housed in the former Synagogue of El Tránsito—a 14th-century architectural masterpiece built by Samuel ha-Levi—the museum preserves and presents the rich heritage of Jewish life in medieval Spain.
It documents the social, religious, and cultural development of Jewish communities in Spain from ancient times through the expulsion of 1492.
The museum safeguards significant artifacts, including Hebrew epigraphy, liturgical objects, manuscripts, textiles, and examples of Ladino literature. Through permanent and temporary exhibitions, research, and public programs, it promotes understanding of Sephardic traditions and their enduring influence on Spanish and Mediterranean history.
Recognized as both a cultural and architectural landmark, the Museo Sefardí stands as a symbol of dialogue, memory, and the historical coexistence of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim cultures in Spain..
