VILNIUS – Vilnius Chatedral

Vilnius Cathedral Basilica of Saint Stanislaus and Vladislaus is situated in the very centre of the city near the defensive wall of the castle. It is believed that Pagan gods were once worshiped here. This shrine is the principal symbol of the Christianisation of Lithuania. The remains of St. Casimir – patron saint of Lithuania and the young – rest in Vilnius Cathedral. The architecture of Vilnius Cathedral is classical. The church has a strict quadrangular shape, symmetric compositions. It is also has characteristics of the gothic, renaissance, and baroque styles. The Cathedral as reconstructed by Laurynas Stuoka-Gucevièius is a magnificent, harmonious and monumental building of three naves in the Classical style. The middle nave is the widest, and the other two are narrower. The naves are separated by pillars covered with cross vaults.
