TALLINN – Tallinn Zoo – Polar Bear

One of the biggest predators in the world: male polar bear can be up to 3m tall and can weigh up to 1000 kg. Regardless of the size, polar bears are fast and agile, good swimmers and divers. Dense fur on its body and paws and a thick layer of fat protects it from its typical habitat in the Arctic. Hollow fur gives the polar bear a white color and helps the bear to float. Hunts seals and eats carcasses, fish etc. Cubs are born in a ice cave and stick with their mother for up to three years. International cooperation and protection programs have helped to keep the species away from extinction.There are three polar bears in the Tallinn Zoo: male Nord, female Friida who was born in Tallinn Zoo as well and their cub Nora who was born on 24th of November in 2013.
