TABARKA – Underwater world

Tabarka is a coastal town located in north-western Tunisia, close to the border with Algeria. Tabarka’s history is a colorful mosaic of Phoenician, Roman, Arabic and Turkish civilizations. Where Tabarka used to be famous for its coral fishing in the past, the town now hosts the annual Coral Festival of underwater photography. Not by coincidence, since Tabarka is a superb site for snorkelers and scuba-divers alike. The local underwater world offers splendid landscapes with caves and canyons, plus all the usual flora and fauna of the Mediterranean Sea: anemones, gorgonian fan corals, tubeworms, lobsters and octopus, and of course the impressive Merou fish which can be found inside the underwater caves.
