The church of Our Lady’s, which was formerly the abbey church (Abdijkerk), is considered to be one of the most beautiful Baroque Churches in Flanders. It was part of the former Abbey of St. Cornelius and St.Cyprian which was founded over here in 1137. After the sale and the destruction of the abbey as a result of the French Occupation, the church became the parisch-church, dedicated to Our Lady. The baroque church, built in 1635, has a very rich interior: a confessional by Th.Verhaeghen, a lectern by J.Bergé and paintings by De Crayer. The alters , wainscot and organ-loft are made by J.B. Van der Haeghen. The organ itself, one of the largest baroque-organs in Belgium, has been made by J. B. de Forceville in 1728. At the back of the church one can visit nowadays the excavations of the former abbey.
