LATVIA – The State Police of Latvia

In 1918, right after the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, the police was established as one of the first state institutions in Latvia. On 5 December 1918, People’s Council adopted rules on the establishment of the police, its administrative power functions and duties.Due to this, 5 December is regarded as the anniversary for the establishment of the police. The State Police of Latvia, ensuring protection of people’s lives, health, rights and freedom, property, society and state interests, has developed and improved together with the State of Latvia, becoming a contemporary and professional police — equal and reliable collaboration partner abroad and a guarantor for public order and safety in Latvia. The obverse of the coin — building of Riga prefecture at 7 Aspazijas Boulevard.
