Saint Joseph is the patron saint of Bastia. The townsfolk have a particular devotion to this saint who is honored for his role as protector of the family. A whole neighborhood (located south of the city) proudly carries his name. ‘San Ghjisè’ (so that the they say in Bastia) is particularly picturesque, with its houses with slate roofs, its atmosphere, its shopping street where we happily case, the parish church was built in the seventeenth century, its streets where one crosses at each step a familiar figure.
