Les îles sanguinaires’ means The Bloody Islands’ as in the old days a lot of ships sank and their crews where crushed on the rocky landscape of those sharp islands. Another version of this name: it’s because their shores turn a deep red during the sun sets. There is a beautiful 1608 Geonese tower on one of the main island from this small archipelago. The Parata headland is itself classified as one of the ‘grand sites of France’ and there is a Genoese lookout tower here. Due to its location and easy access, the ParataTower is the most renowned when referring to this type of construction in Corsica.
