ARNHEM – Koninklijke Burgers’ Zoo – Butterfly

Hundreds of butterflies are flying in the Mangrove, Burgers Zoo Arnhem. There are over 18 different species in total. Most butterfly species of the Mangrove mainly show their striking colors when they fly around. At rest, when they eat fruit or nectar, for example, the wings are often closed and we only see the outside. With various types of butterflies, these exteriors have unobtrusive protective colors, or large eyes to confuse a potential enemy.
The section of the Mangrove where the butterflies will mainly stay will become a tropical dry forest, with nectar plants as a food source for the adult butterflies and host plants as a food source for the caterpillars.
