AALST – Aalst Carnaval 2020 – 92 stoet

Aalst Carnival or Carnaval Oilsjt is a pre-Lenten carnival that occurs in the normally quiet Belgian city of Aalst (Oilsjt) which sits between Brussels and Ghent. The city of Aalst transforms for three extravagant days each year, beginning on the Sunday prior to Ash Wednesday and finishing on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent begins.
Staf De Koninck (16) drew the winning poster for this carnival edition. His design was ahead of 43 other entries. He may be young, but you cannot call Staf a real newcomer to the carnival world. Moreover, as a resident of the Baardegem district, he was born and raised from Aalst.
16-year-old draftsman carnival poster was inspired by “Baby New Year Celebrates” van Leyendecker.
Staf sought inspiration for the design from the fact that carnival is part of Aalster’s DNA and is often brought up at the spoon. The title is appropriate: “’t Es aane kleinen oeik è; says ooh, you are not finished! ”. “The design has some retro influences, to underline the importance of heritage and traditions,” he says.
