High above the Albanian city of Shkodër stands Rozafa Castle, an ancient fortress with views over the surrounding rivers, mountains and countryside. The castle has been used by Illyrians, Romans, Venetians and Ottomans throughout its long history.
It is named after Rozafa, a woman from a famous Albanian legend who was sacrificed so that the castle walls would remain standing. Today, the ruins combine history, impressive views and one of Albania’s best-known legends.
