Mdina is a fortified medieval town enclosed in bastions, located on a large hill in the centre of Malta. The history of Mdina traces back more than 4000 years. The town was the old capital of Malta, and with its narrow streets, few inhabitants and beatuful views over the Island it is truly a magical town. Mdina is one of Europe’s finest examples of an ancient walled city and extraordinary in its mix of medieval and baroque architecture. It is referred to as the “Silent City” both by Maltese and visitors because there are almost no cars there.
