Château-Musée de Saumur stands above the town of Saumur in France’s Loire Valley. First built as a fortress in the 10th century, it was later expanded into a royal residence by the Dukes of Anjou during the Middle Ages. Over time, the château also served as a prison and military barracks.
Today, it functions as a museum with collections of decorative arts, ceramics, furniture, and equestrian objects linked to Saumur’s long cavalry tradition and the nearby Cadre Noir riding school. In 2026, it remains one of the Loire Valley’s best-known historic landmarks.
