LONDON – The Natural History Museum – Spinosaurus

The Spinosaurus was a massive theropod dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous period, about 112 to 93 million years ago. It is known for its distinctive sail-like structure on its back, formed by elongated neural spines. This carnivorous dinosaur, primarily found in what is now North Africa, is believed to have been semi-aquatic, a unique adaptation among large theropods.
Estimates suggest it could reach lengths of up to 15–18 meters, making it one of the longest carnivorous dinosaurs.
It’s likely ha was a fish-eater, its long, crocodile-like snout was perfect for catching fish.
Spinosaurus is famous for its portrayal in popular culture, especially in movies like Jurassic Park III, though scientific depictions of the dinosaur have changed as more fossil evidence has been found.
