VITZNAU – Rigibahnen – RIGI LOK 7

The story of Swiss mountain trains began in 1871 when engineer Niklaus Riggenbach constructed the first cogwheel railway going up the 1. 800 meters high Rigi. This hissing and spitting monster with a vertical steam boiler was a European sensation and turned the rugged terrain of Central Switzerland into a tourist paradise. Locomotive 7 was brought back into service to mark the 125th anniversary of the Rigi Line in 1996. The use of the historic steam locomotive No. 7 was very successful. 45.000 passengers were transported in 147 days.
