SPLIT – Diocletian’s Palace

Diocletian’s Palace is the ancient palace of Emperor Diocletian in Split. The remains of the palace are now part of the historic center of Split, which is inscribed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in Europe 1979. year. Start of construction of Diocletian’s palace is not exactly determined. It is assumed that it was around 295 year after the introduction tetrarchy (Rule of Four). However, ten years after that decision, when Diocletian abdicated 305th g, the palace has not yet been completed, and there are indications that some constructions took place while the emperor stayed in it. According to the architectural idea whose palace was built and who were its builders, is not known. However, the engraved names of Greek and Zotikos Filotas, as well as numerous carved the Greek letters indicate that a number of builders were originally from the Eastern Empire.
