NÎMES – Musée de la Romanité

The Museum of Romanity of Nîmes is a museum located opposite the Roman amphitheater of Nîmes, in the department of Gard and the Occitanie region. It was open on June 2, 2018.
In the heart of the city of Nîmes, facing the bimillennial arenas, this archaeological museum presents the collections of the city, which come to life thanks to 65 multimedia devices (augmented reality, audiovisual technologies). The origins of the city are evoked by the remains of a monumental pediment which adorns the central atrium of the Museum. The double-revolution staircase takes visitors to the Gallic era, then immerses them in the heart of daily Roman life, discovering the city and its inhabitants almost 2,000 years ago. It then goes through the Middle Ages, until the contemporary era, to discover the influence of Romanity over the centuries.
