The Cape Girão to the west of Funchal is known to be the highest seacliff in Europe and the second highest in the world! Its 580 meters height, make this a “must see” of the Madeiran tourist circuit.
It has always been one of the main attractions in Madeira, but recently, with the construction of the new viewing platform, it gained a more important and exciting role. A new structure built at the highest point of the cliff offers a unique sensation: standing on a glass and steel platform 580 meters above sea level, where you can see the impressive cliff face directly beneath your feet, while at the same time enjoying a panoramic view of vast Atlantic ocean.
Once you are at Cabo Girão you should also visit the “Fajã dos Padres ” located in the lower area. Due to its difficult access – via a lift with a limited schedule or by boat – you get an amazing sense of privacy on a spectacular beach with crystal clear waters. You will also find small plantations of local farmers. Fajã dos Padres is a paradise inside another Paradise… Madeira!
