This mustard mill was built in 1810 and ranks among the oldest in Europe. The original location of the mill is unknown, but records show that it was restored and operated in Belgium in 1931 and after that eventually moved to the Netherlands. In 1997, this technical monument – however in a very bad condition – was acquired by its current owner Mr. Wolfgang Steffens, who meticulously overhauled and refurbished it.The grinding process is carried out by millstones weighing 525 kg. Using the cold-grind method, the 200-year-old mustard mill is now back into operation and produces award-winning mustard specialities, based on recipes handed over through generations. The goal is to manufacture mustard such as it was made in the year of construction of the mustard mill, with all the valuable content of the whole mustard seed and with all the ethereal oils and natural substances completely preserved. The daily production is just 360 kg.
