At Aquarium des Tropiques you’ll see also turtles. It’s red-eared terappins or red-eared slider, also called Florida turtle.
This turtle is easily recognised by the red stripes on the sides of its head. Though young terrapins are mainly carnivorous, adults eat a larger proportion of plants. Red eared terrapin is a non native introduced species. There were sold in great numbers in Europe in 50th. Some of them escaped and started to live in ponds and rivers.
It’s an extremely invasive species that is a danger not only to a European turtle but also for the European environment including people.
