TRAKAI – Vytautas the Grand Duke of Lithuania

Vytautas the Great was born in Senieji Trakai (literally: ‘Old’ Trakai) in 1350 and died in 1430 in Trakai. Vytautas was the Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1401 to 1429 (c. 1392-1429, from 1422–1423 he was also the Czech King*) and the King of Lithuania (from 1429–1430). Vytautas was the son of the Grand Duke Kestutis, and Jogaila’s cousin. Additionally, Vytautas was an excellent strategist and powerful ruler as well as military leader and gifted diplomat.
