Slavkov Castle

Slavkov Castle did not always have its’ current appearance. Today the castle is in baroque style, so one might estimate that it originates from the 17th or 18th century. In fact, it is much older. Notes on its existence come from the first half of 13th century, but over the centuries it changed its appearance several times. These changes always almost entirely wiped out the previous look of the castle. It belongs to the eldest preserved manors in Moravia. Baroque Slavkov Castle has 115 rooms and an impressive garden in the French style. The Palace was designed by Italian architect Domenico Martinelli. In its historic salon, an armistice was signed between Austria and France after the battle of Austerlitz on 2 December, 1805. There is a small historic museum (only in Czech) and a multimedia presentation about the battle.
