BÜCKEBURG – 50 Jahre Drehende Flügel

The year 1968 is considered the beginning of the development of the radio-controlled model helicopter. On 14/15 th of September, Harsewinkel hosted a first international competition for remote-controlled model helicopters. But the technology was obviously more difficult than expected. Only a few participants came to the competition and no one was able to demonstrate a functioning helicopter. The replica of the technology of a large helicopter was not simply transferable to the model airplane.
Dipl.-Ing. Dieter Schlüter, who is considered the “father of the model helicopter”, finally managed to construct a functioning, remote-controlled model helicopter. Schlüter proved it on 20 June 1970 by an internationally recognized world record flight of 28 minutes flight time and 11.5 kilometers route in a closed circle.
