BÍTOV – Bítov Castle

Bítov Castle is located in the village of Bítov, some 25 km northwest of Znojmo, Czech Republic. It was built in the 11th century. It is one of the oldest and the most romantic castles of the Czech republic (first record dated to 1061). The castle lies on a hill hcich is surrounded by the river Želetavka from three sides. The originally wooden feudal castle on the south fronter of the country, was quite soon converted to a stone castle. Between 1811 – 1863 the castle was converted to the present, mainly Gothic revival look.
