The Grand Place or Grote Markt is the most famous and most photographed place in Brussels. The Gothic town hall and Baroque guildhalls are the top attractions of Grand Place (Grote Markt) market square in the historic old town center of Brussels. It’s one of the most beautiful squares in Europe.
In 1695 the French army bombarded Brussels and destroyed most buildings housed in La Grand Place. They were all rebuilt except the Town Hall.

The Grand Place has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list and is one of the most popular sights in Belgium. Flowers are still sold here most mornings but the Grand Place is at its grandest when it hosts the Tapis des Fleur (flower carpet) every second August.
